This is a horrible idea. The app is just a method for accessing a database. It could be provided from a web-page just as easily. If Apple bans these apps, then people will either jailbreak, or use safari to access the information. There are much more effective ways to reduce drunk driving.

I never ONCE claimed you dont have GSM carriers. I claimed (and maintain) that CDMA is crap for consumer choice. and what you pay for calls is irrelevant. they dont charge you more/less because of it being CDMA/GSM/analogue/a tin on a string.

Well, only because they might have to pay you overtime. If they have to pay you extra or a premium overtime wage, they will try hard to not let you get to that point. Not because they don't want you working too much, but because they don't want to have to pay you for your time.
Opening day is set in stone, so there is no pushing it back. In the end, myself and my assistant had to work seven 20-hour days in a row in order to get everything completed. When I turned in my invoice, with obvious gobs of overtime on it, it was sent back saying "We pay you a day rate. A day is 24 hours. Your rate covers however much you have to work in a day."
Here the public sector tends to offer time off in lieu, rather than paid overtime. The reason he was told to work less was genuinely because of the law. They could get in trouble if he worked too many hours for too long.

Well, if Steve wants to shun Europe, ok. However, these yes, no, maybe games are utterly unbecoming of a company like Apple. Not untypical but out of place. The main representatives not being able to say when and where they'll show isn't very reassuring.

Is this true?
I though that an in car GPS just receives the signals from the satellites and works out your position. How can that be tracked? :confused:
Has to have some back and forth that could be tracked.

go look at the pandora app. i don't see anyone complaining about that. This would essentially be the same thing except every song would be of your choice bc it's YOUR music.
Ok, I will complain. ;) I stopped using Pandora on my iPhone when AT&T began offering incentives to decrease 3G bandwidth usage (i.e. lower monthly bills).
Delivery of Pandora's stream also comes with the tradeoff of reduced fidelity and network interruptions, which I found barely acceptable for mobile application sans the bandwidth concerns above.
I also tired of the playlists that repeated with the free Pandora service and did not find it of enough value to myself personally to pay, especially if I was not guaranteed more variety of music.
That said, if you find Pandora useful, then good for you!

Regardless of the tool, however, it is usually much better to let the OS dynamically schedule threads across the cores. Unless the programmer has some reason to try to control this, the alternative is some resources (CPUs) being overcommitted, while other CPUs are idle.
It doesn't matter who has the better tools - it's usually better to let the OS decide microsecond by microsecond how best to schedule the CPUs, than to have the developer make those decisions at edit time.
I've used the SetProcessAffinityMask APIs fairly often, but it's always been for specific test or benchmark situations. I have a hard time thinking of a situation where a general application would want to statically control the scheduler - it's just "bad think" to even try. Just wait. I have a feeling that once people get used to buying movies off of iTS, they'll convince all their friends to buy more movies and those friends would convince their friends and so on. I wouldn't be surprised if they sell 50m w/in 9 months. Hopefully, people will like the movies.
I hope that the iTV would someday get DVR capabilities like saving episodes on TV. Also, I'd like iPods to have radios & Airport built-in too.

A shame about scrapping the idea of a ground up design - I hope that doesn't lead to a lack of innovation. That's what really leads Apple along! Although if they just make a killer phone (I'm sure they will at some point...) it's bound to sell buckets loads!

I don't think scrapping the ground up design will hurt. The iPod was made mostly from off the shelf parts when it was introd. but it still was awesome. Hopefully they can do the same thing with their phone. My contract doesn't expire until December 2007 but I want one...and I don't even know what it is yet.

Why does Apple think it's okay to continually alienate and turn away developers?? :confused: Why do fanboys continue to excuse such incidences? Why aren't people SICK of this kind of behavior from Apple? :mad:

This specific case is very disappointing and Apple needs to apologize and really work things out with them! Apple needs to take strong measures to ensure that they protect the immensely powerful platform they have going for the future!

What do people prefer? I've heard quite bad things about the Magic Mouse, the majority of people saying they find it uncomfortable etc?
As I already have a good Logitech wireless mouse, would it be a better combination to use that plus the Trackpad?
Personally I really like the Magic Mouse, but I know a lot of people do find it uncomfortable. But either way, if you've already got a good mouse then I would definitely go with the Track Pad �*it makes general use (surfing the webernet and such) much more comfortable.

Exactly! I think other potential twists would include a video Airport Express with a built-in TV tuner (to stream tv content back to your iMac/Mac Pro for recording, or an optional built-in HD for local storage when you don't have your Mac on or something.
I'd be surprised if Apple did anything with TV tuners.
With the variety of TV services that people have (analog cable, digital cable, satellite TV, Verizon's TV over fiber, terrestrial HDTV), coming up with a device that can tune most folks TV doesn't sound easy, even for Apple.

Apple would have to make at least 2 different phones for that to work. There are two primary cellular networks in the US: GSM and CDMA. If Apple makes just a GSM phone, they're also making a phone that can be used in almost every other country in the world. Europe and Asia are the real cell phone markets, not the US.

Right... but your still using iTunes, an Apple 'application'. I think I would understand your point and your point would be made clearer if you showed a Windows program/software or any third party program/software that describes the file type as an "Application." If there are any, because I haven't used a windows in a few years. I'd boot up the old PC and check myself but I rather not.
I think he used iTunes as an example because it is something that Mac users would be familliar with as opposed to some other application that you would look at and say "WTF is that?"
Anyway, an .exe in Windows is refered to as an "application". A "program" is a collection of files that includes one or more .exe and possibly other files. This has been the case since Windows XP (possibly earlier).

I want to see Apple PUSH Thunderbolt into the logic board and all of the connections. Let's see Thunderbolt run SSD drives!!! If Apple and Intel don't push Thunderbolt into the light and really show how much better it is, and when I say "show" I mean build it and sell it to people, then it'll be a great idea that we'll all get around to years later than we should.
I could care less at the moment about external storage. I'll care at some point but not until the speed in the computer is as fast as it should be.
I recall FW400 having some success over SCSI. However FW800 was quite a disappointment. I was looking forward to it, until I realize only a handful of products are actually released. USB 2.0 is a success as it offers acceptable wide range performance. Would love eSata, however not holding my breath. ThunderBolt seems great, however with the lack of product announcements and pricing it is a wait and see if the masses will accept it or just go with other options NAS. :)
