You're right, just went to Intel's site. How 'bout Merom? I thought I
heard (or read) that one of Intel's next generation cpu's would be
pin compatable with the current Yonah's.
EDIT: went to the Merom link in your sig. I hope to see a BIOS/EFI updater so I can upgrade the cpu in my iMac.Merom is socket compatible with Yonah. Some users have already put in the new chips in current machines.

i see the biggest problem with the sneaky apps that steal your user data from your phone and send it to the writers without your consent. not exactly a standard virus, but invasive nonetheless.

Well MS has two games to play on:
1. Tablet/Phone
The tablet/phone is going to be a big deal. If they do well, they are going to generate good profits.
2. Operating System/ Office
Unless and until MS does something new under operating systems, throwing windows 8 is not going to make a big difference. Also, till the time Windows 8 comes out MS's profits are going to decrease.
Kinect is out/ Windows 7 is out - This side is gonna go down.
So till the time Windows 8 is ready MS has to count on the mobile business.
Nintendo is gonna kill them in the Console race. They need to come out with the XBox 720 within 6 months of Nintendo's new machine!

it's a nice gesture, but anti-virus software on osx is about as useful as tits on a boar.
You are far too generous.

Good god, calm down until this thing is actually released. What is the point of getting so hyped up over this RUMOR (which is all it is at this point)?

It could be no other thing.
It could be many other things--Aperture, iSight, Cinema Displays, updated laptops, etc.
What it won't be is an iPhone.

Apple wants to extend the seasonal iPod buzz as long as possible. We know they will update both the iPod nano and full-size iPod, the question is when. I think it's safe to say nano first. Here's why.
iPod video, then nano
Everyone goes WOW at the iPod video, and the nano is a yawn in comparison. The buzz will explode but then fizzle out faster.
Both at the same time
Will create a huge buzz, but will then die out.
iPod nano, then video
The iPod nano will be considered pretty cool, and generate reasonable buzz. When it's fizzling out, the iPod video bomb will be dropped, keeping iPod buzz going all through the xmas season. Apple did this last year and boy did it work.

Yes, they should just just shut-up and vote for corporate-sponsored Republicrats or Converalabour every four or five years and take it.
It's a shame that there is no longer any meaningful democracy.
Yes, and that certainly justifies being a loudmouthed asshat. There are ways you can get a message out without being a douchebag, but that's rapidly becoming a lost art on any part of the political spectrum.
Anyway, I'd be pretty pissed off if a bunch of Greenpeace guys were screwing with my baby kid without even talking to me about it. I don't care if it's as inconspicuous as them putting an apple in the pram and snapping publicity photos. They had damn well better get permission before doing it.

what the heck LOL, this is a joke right? I have NEVER seen a single new windows phone being used in public nor do I see that many Android devices in the UK. mostly I see
1. BlackBerries
2. iPhones
never seen a new windows phone LOL, most people who are happy with iPhones etc, will stick with them and won't bother going for anything else.
Windows Mobile is doomed for failure, how many times has it been revamped and rebranded over the years? like 3 or 4 times if I remember

NOW you're on to something.Let's expand on that ;)
Where is the video out from the airport going to go ? The TV of course!
Now..
Why not just make a Mini type box with 802.11n with DVI/HDMI/S-Video and Digital/Analog out ports.Connect that to the tv then stream from your computer or the movie store. While we're at it toss a hefty HD in the mini for recording.
It's much more convenient too.Just sit on the couch and surf Front Row for movies then buy it and send it to the tv.POW! one step..
Apple IS about ease of use..
Why is everyone obsessed with 802.11n? Unless apple can work magic, N is nowhere NEAR ready for primetime. 802.11g is fine. 54Mbps theoretical, at long range you still get around 11Mbps... and the TV content is only .75Mbps, and i'm estimating the movie content to max out around 3Mbps. Thats sitll plenty o' bandwidth.

Surely I'm not the only one who's noticed that the i7 is slower than the i5, and that the Radeon HD 6970M is slower than the 6750M.
Whaaaaa?
Hold up
6750M (http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6750M.43958.0.html)
6970M (http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6970M.43077.0.html)
Similar clock speeds, the 6970 has twice the amount of pipelines.
Also from what I've seen in the store the highest clocked i5 is 3.1, and the i7 is 3.4.
I'm really tempted, but these iMacs need to keep target display mode so I can feed my PC rig in there, otherwise my desk just doesn't have the space for a second display (could always get the 21.5 inch and a second 1080 display I guess).

All I need to do now is wait a couple of months for the bugs to be worked out (if any) and it comes with Lion pre-installed. However the "WAIT" will be hard...

Seems like the application developers could add a link to such a feature in their code so the user could just assign core volume in each application prefs that would tell the system what amount to assign to that process. Maybe even have the system do that automatically to all applicaiton preferences so the choice appears in all general preference panes of each application.I don't know if it's up to Apple or the program developers to allow CPU/core assignment.
Could you get on an IM? I'd like to talk about the Guide we were talking about.

Shouldn't it show faster performance for the i7?
Perhaps they're comparing the old i7 to the new i7?

"This would somewhat explain why the Paris Expo was given the cold shoulder."
Cold shoulder to say the least. The same day as the expo, in London, Apple will hold a press conference. If you are a reporter, where do you go?
Apple distanced itself from the Macworld New York Expo, I wonder if they are doing the same thing with the Paris expo?

What is it with some of you guys? Does hope spring eternal, or what!
Apple could be at a medical convention to promote the new artificial Apple iHeart and some of you would be jumping up and down screaming: "Yahoo, this means MBP updates".
What's with us? We want C2D MBP's. That's all.
Though I'm very interested to see what's going to be announced at this event, outside of MBP's.

I think this is enough to show that Microsoft is unequivocally correct. The term has been in use for much longer than Apple's launching of the store and it has been ubiquitous in the computer industry for a long time.
The way to distinguish (if it needs to be done) between app stores is by saying the name of the app store before hand, ie the Apple App Store, the Amazon App Store, or the Microsoft App Store.
Examples of uses (Dvorak in his references to "killer app"):
2005: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/a-k...or-real-estate

What I want to know is whether the 27" will play nice with 1080p input from an HDMI adaptor. BD player/PS3 hooked up to a 27" iMac without need for an expensive upscaler would be nice.

Apple "beats" Microsoft?
But who has the strongest dad?
ROFL! I totally see what you're saying. Why can't people just avoid fanboyish behavior? Both companies make some great products. Both companies make bad products too. *shrugs*

same price as the old 20 Incher.
Don't bet on it. I'd say a cool $2000 for that rig. Expect the current prices to stay intact.

When my mom was a cool, happening chick in the early '70s and added avocado green appliances to replace those big, white 50's-era appliances she looked around her new kitchen and thought to herself "Wow. Gorgeous! How much better can it get?"
And I'm sure in 15 years my kids will tell their friends "Ugh, my parents have that 2010-era stainless and granite kitchen. So hideous".
I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm hungry.
Hahahaha this.
